In his Irish Times article of 7th December 2017, John Roche describes the power citizens have to contribute to advances in scientific knowledge and to democratise research. Roche, an Astrophysicist and Assistant Professor in Science Education at Trinity College Dublin, describes a new citizen science initiative between the Irish daily newspaper The Irish Times and citizen science researchers across Ireland. Over the next six months, the Irish daily newspaper the Irish Times will be promoting citizen science projects in Ireland by collaborating with citizen science researchers across the country. The aim is to raise awareness about citizen science among the public, to generate new ideas and to get citizens to participate actively.   Read more

Scent ‘Spotlight’ Series – Athanasia Tsertou, ICCS

Our Second ‘Spotlight’ entry focuses on the work of ICCS, the Institute of Communication and Computer Systems, a research institute based in Athens. ICCS conducts research across several application areas, including security, transport, logistics and the environment. For the latter, ICCS interests include information and communication technologies for environmental applications, including sensors, sensor networks and embedded devices.
