The Irish Times and citizen science

Over the next six months, the Irish daily newspaper the Irish Times will be promoting citizen science projects in Ireland by collaborating with citizen science researchers across the country. The aim is to raise awareness about citizen science among the public, to generate new ideas and to get citizens to participate actively.  

The studies will focus on topics such as environmental protection, light pollution, the importance of pollinators and opinions on vaccination.

In his article, Environment and Science Editor Kevin O’Sullivan discusses the benefits and challenges linked to citizen science initiatives and the role of the European Commission in endorsing citizen science across Europe.
